چکیده

In queueing networks, it is well known that the throughput-optimal backpressure routing algorithm results in poor delay performance for light and moderate traffic loads. To improve delay performance, state-of-the-art backpressure routing algorithm (called BPmin [1]) exploits queue length information to direct packets to less congested routes to their destinations. However, BPmin algorithm estimates route congestion based on unrealistic assumption that every node in the network knows real-time global queue length information of all other nodes. In this paper, we propose multi-agent Q-learning aided backpressure routing algorithm, where each node estimates route congestion using only local information of neighboring nodes. Our algorithm not only outperforms state-of-the-art BPmin algorithm in delay performance but also retains the following appealing features: distributed implementation, low computation complexity and throughput-optimality. Simulation results show our algorithm reduces average packet delay by 95% for light traffic loads and by 41% for moderate traffic loads when compared to state-ofthe-art BPmin algorithm.

An Adaptive Opportunistic Routing with Congestion Diversity in Wireless Networks

Traditional routing strategies for multi-hop wireless networks forward packets by selecting at the sender side the next hop for each packet. We consider the problem of routing packets across a multi-hop network consisting of multiple sources of traffic and wireless links while ensuring bounded expected delay. Each packet transmission can be overheard by a random subset of receiver nodes among w...

Delay Efficient Backpressure Routing in Wireless Ad Hoc Networks

Packet scheduling/routing in wireless ad hoc networks is a fundamental problem for ad hoc networking. Backpressure routing is a solid and throughput optimal policy for such networks, but suffers from increased delays. In this article, we present two holistic approaches to improve upon the delay problems of backpressuretype algorithms. We develop two scheduling algorithms, namely Voting backpres...

Loop-Free Backpressure Routing Using Link-Reversal Algorithms

The backpressure routing policy is known to be a throughput optimal policy that supports any feasible traffic demand in data networks, but may have poor delay performance when packets traverse loops in the network. In this paper, we study loop-free backpressure routing policies that forward packets along directed acyclic graphs (DAGs) to avoid the looping problem. These policies use link revers...

An adaptive multi-agent routing algorithm inspired by ants behavior

This paper introduces AntNet, a novel adaptive approach to routing tables learning in connectionless communications networks. AntNet is inspired by the stigmergy communication model observed in ant colonies. We compare AntNet with the current Internet routing algorithm (OSPF), some old Internet routing algorithms (SPF and distributed adaptive Bellman-Ford), and recently proposed forms of asynch...
